This week, I started on the planning phase for our Appalachian Trail hike that we are doing this summer. I am going with three friends I have known almost my whole life. The first step was to figure out how many days we were hiking. We are going for 16 days, hiking an average of 13 miles a day for a total of 208 miles. We begin our hike in Springer Mountain, Georgia, and end in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

About every five days, we plan on having somebody resupply us with food. For my food, I will eat a protein bar for breakfast. I plan on having a MountainHouse freeze-dried meal for dinner and something like peanut butter and jelly or ramen noodles for lunch.

I use a Magellan hammock, a Foxelli under quilt, and a Foxelli rainfly for my sleep system. I use a Big Agnes sleeping bag; the weight of the sleeping bag depends on the temperature. I have an Osprey backpack which I love. The backpack you use depends on the duration of your hike , and the amount of stuff you pack.
